What it's actually like to live with
The Havells Prolife Grande is the air fryer we recommend to large Indian families without hesitation. At 6.5 litres and 1700W, it handles a full batch of pakoras for 6-7 people in a single go, while 4L models require two or three batches for the same amount. The 1700W heating element cooks roughly 15-20% faster than the standard 1400W found in most budget models - a batch of French fries that takes 18 minutes in a 1400W fryer finishes in about 15 minutes here.
At Rs 7,399, it undercuts the Instant Pot Vortex by Rs 2,600 while offering a larger 6.5L basket and more powerful 1700W element. The Vortex wins on cooking consistency thanks to its 360-degree airflow, but for pure capacity and speed, the Havells is the better deal. The 2-year comprehensive warranty is double what most budget competitors offer, and Havells service centres are available even in tier-3 cities where Instant Pot and AGARO have minimal presence.
The 10 preset cooking programs cover a good range of Indian and international dishes. The tandoori preset worked surprisingly well for paneer tikka and chicken drumsticks, maintaining the right temperature for that charred exterior without drying out the inside. The French fries preset produces crispier results than most restaurants we have tried. Each preset can be further adjusted for temperature and time to match your preferences.
At 7 kg, this is a heavy appliance that you will want to place permanently on your kitchen counter rather than moving between cooking and storage. The touch controls are responsive but can be finicky with wet or oily hands - keep a dry cloth nearby. Monthly electricity cost for daily 30-minute use runs about Rs 150-200. The non-stick basket should be hand-washed only - never put it in a dishwasher or scrub with abrasive pads. For families of 5-7 who air fry daily and want Havells' nationwide service assurance, this is the capacity champion of the budget segment.
