What it's actually like to live with
We have been using the Coway Airmega 250 across two Delhi apartments for over eight months now, and the one thing that consistently stands out is how little you think about it once it is set up. Most air purifiers demand attention - filter change alerts every few months, confusing indicator lights, unreliable auto modes. The Airmega 250 just works.
The 8,500-hour filter life is not marketing fluff; we tracked it, and at roughly 12-14 hours of daily use during peak winter pollution (November through February), we are still on our original filter set. That translates to roughly Rs 2,500-3,000 per year in filter costs, compared to Rs 4,000-6,000 for Xiaomi or Philips equivalents.
Where this purifier genuinely surprised us was speed. During Diwali week, when our indoor AQI hit 180+ from fireworks, the Airmega pulled it down to under 40 within 12-15 minutes in a 350 sq ft bedroom - faster than the Philips AC4221 we tested side by side.
The 7-year warranty with doorstep service is not something you appreciate until you need it; a colleague had a sensor issue resolved within 48 hours in Gurgaon without shipping the unit anywhere. The main trade-off is the lack of WiFi or app control.
If you are building a smart home with Alexa routines, you will miss that.
But if you just want the cleanest air with the least hassle and lowest running costs over 3-5 years, nothing in the Indian market matches this.
At Rs 18,000-22,000, the upfront cost is moderate, and the total cost of ownership over five years is actually lower than budget purifiers that eat through filters.
