What it's actually like to live with
HomeMate is the disruptor in this category, and the value proposition is hard to argue with.
At Rs 1,200-1,800 per unit, you can outfit a full 3BHK apartment with smart RGB downlights for what three or four Philips units would cost. The feature set punches well above its price - 16 million RGB colours, tunable white, music sync, and even Siri Shortcuts support.
The WhatsApp-based customer support is genuinely impressive, with real humans responding quickly to setup questions and troubleshooting. The risk is quality consistency. When you order 10 units, one or two may have slightly different colour temperatures or brightness levels, which becomes noticeable when they are installed in the same room. WiFi connectivity can be flaky with cheaper routers, and some units require multiple pairing attempts during setup.
The last state memory works reliably through Indian power cuts, which is essential.
For budget renovations where the alternative is no smart lighting at all, HomeMate makes smart downlights accessible.
Just order a couple of extras to account for potential duds in larger batches.
