What it's actually like to live with
The Mi Smart Color Bulb is a straightforward buy if you are already in the Xiaomi ecosystem - and in India, a lot of people are. The Mi Home app unifies your bulbs with Mi cameras, air purifiers, robot vacuums, and other Xiaomi devices, creating genuinely useful automations like turning on lights when the camera detects motion. The B22 base fitting Indian sockets directly is a practical advantage.
The 11-year claimed lifespan is optimistic but even at half that, you are looking at solid longevity. Colour reproduction is good across the spectrum, and the 800 lumens output handles bedroom and living room duty adequately.
Where the Mi bulb loses points is value - at Rs 800-1,200, you are paying more than the Wipro NS9400 for similar standalone features. The premium only makes sense if the Mi Home ecosystem integration adds value for you.
The app can also be sluggish during peak hours when Xiaomi servers are under heavy load, causing noticeable delays in scene changes.
For dedicated Xiaomi households, this is the obvious smart bulb choice.
For everyone else, the Tapo L530B offers better standalone value.
