Editor's take
An Apple Watch Series 10 review for no-subscription buyers needs to clear up one misconception. Apple Fitness Plus is not required for the watch to track workouts, Activity Rings, sleep, heart rate, ECG on supported models, safety alerts, or Apple Health data.
That makes the Series 10 a strong no-fee choice if you already own an iPhone. The health experience is not as training-heavy as Garmin, but the smartwatch experience is much richer. Calls, texts, Apple Pay, Siri, timers, apps, and HomeKit controls are all part of the appeal.
The watch is especially strong for people who want safety features. Fall detection, crash detection, emergency calling support, heart-rate alerts, and family-friendly features make it more than a gym accessory. For many buyers, those tools matter more than another workout metric.
Battery life is the obvious weakness. The Series 10 can track sleep, but only if you build a charging routine. Garmin watches are easier if you want to wear a tracker for days and forget about charging.
The ecosystem lock-in is also real. Apple Watch is an iPhone product. If your household uses mixed phones or you expect to switch to Android, a Garmin is a safer long-term purchase.
For iPhone owners, though, the recommendation is clear. Apple Watch Series 10 gives you a complete smartwatch and a strong fitness tracker without requiring Apple Fitness Plus. It is the best subscription-free choice if smart features matter as much as health data.
