What it's actually like to live with
The ecobee Enhanced exists for the buyer who looks at the ecobee Premium and thinks, 'I want the good parts but not the extras.' That is a rational position. The built-in Alexa speaker is useful but not essential if you already have Echo devices. The air quality monitoring is interesting but not life-changing for every home. And the $60 to $80 savings is real money.
What you keep with the Enhanced is everything that actually makes ecobee worth choosing over cheaper brands. The eco+ automation, the broad platform support across Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit, and SmartThings, the responsive app, and the Power Extender Kit for homes without a C-wire. These are the features that make the Enhanced a strong mid-range recommendation.
The biggest missing piece compared to the Premium is the included SmartSensor. The Enhanced supports optional SmartSensors ($40 each), but none come in the box. For buyers who need room-level comfort, that is either a $40 add-on or a reason to buy the Premium. For buyers with well-insulated single-story homes, the sensor absence is not a real loss.
